For all you Moms out there… celebrate this week! Next Sunday May 9 is your big day, but try to take all week…. if you can. (ha!). And here’s a few favorite Mother’s Day films to help get your week going in the right direction.
Steel Magnolias (1989 PG) – A young beautician, newly arrived in a small Louisiana town, finds work at the local salon, where a small group of women share a close bond of friendship, and welcome her into the fold.
Lady Bird (2017 R) – In 2002, an artistically inclined seventeen-year-old girl comes of age in Sacramento, California. Laurie Metcalf is one-of-a-kind Mom. Five Oscar nominations for this one.
Mothers Day– (2016 PG-13) Three generations come together leading up to Mother’s Day.
Places in the Heart- (1984 PG) In central Texas in the 1930s, a widow, with two small children, tries to run her small 40-acre farm with the help of two disparate people. All star cast. All heart story.
Erin Brockovich – (2000 R) An unemployed single mother becomes a legal assistant and almost single-handedly brings down a California power company accused of polluting a city’s water supply. Based on a true story. (Erin plays a waitress.) Powerful story and an Oscar for Julia.
And don’t forget the memorable mothers in Forrest Gump and Throw Mama from the Train.
See you at the Ruby soon!
