It’s that time of year when we see more people having fun outdoors running (and walking). We want to share with you some of the best films about running to celebrate the “running spirit” in all of us.
Chariots of Fire tells the true story of two British track athletes, one a determined Jew, and the other a devout Christian, who compete in the 1924 Olympics. An Oscar went to the composer Vangelis for his extraordinary musical score. (1981, PG)
Saint Ralph is the unlikely story of Ralph Walker, a ninth grader who outran everyone’s expectations except his own in his bold quest of trying to win the 1954 Boston Marathon. (2002, PG-13)
Race– Jesse Owens’ quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy. ( 2016, PG-13)
Without Limits– The life of renowned runner Steve Prefontaine from Oregon, and his relationship with legendary coach Bill Bowerman.(1998, PG-13)
McFarland USA– Jim White moves his family after losing his last job as a football coach, and at his new school he turns seven disappointing students into one of the best cross-country teams in the region. (2015, PG)
And if running is not your favorite activity, try a saunter, a walk, a scramble or a wander to lift your spirits too!
