We celebrate Flag Day this next Monday. On May 30, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on June 14. Many Americans celebrate Flag Day by displaying the Red, White and Blue in front of homes and businesses. This day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States.
Here are several films that focus on the importance of our flag…. to inspire and to comfort.
Flags of Our Fathers (2006 – R) – The life stories of the six men who raised the flag at the Battle of Iwo Jima, a turning point in World War II. Directed by Clint Eastwood.
Last Flag Flying ( 2017 – R) -Thirty years after they served together in Vietnam, a former Navy Corpsman Larry “Doc” Shepherd re-unites with his old buddies, former Marines Sal Nealon and Reverend Richard Mueller, to bury his son, a young Marine killed in the Iraq War. A Richard Linklater film
