Join us on Thursday April 23, 2024 at 7 PM when Wendy Waszut-Barrett will present “Scenic Art for Washington Theatres”. This presentation is free to the public.
Her presentation will be about the people and the art behind the historic theatre curtains and scenery of the northwest. She will demonstrate why it is important that these stories and artifacts are saved for future generations.
Wendy Waszut-Barrett PhD is an author, artist, and historian, specializing in painted illusions created for nineteenth-century and twentieth-century popular entertainment. For over three decades, her passion has remained the preservation of theatrical heritage, extant scenery conservation, and training artists in distemper painting techniques for the stage.
Dr. Waszut-Barrett is the founder of Historic Stage Services, LLC, a company specializing in historic stages and how to make them work for today’s needs. She is currently working with the Theatre Museum of Repertoire Americana in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to offer master classes in scenery preservation techniques. Recent publications include: The Santa Fe Scottish Rite Temple: Freemasonry, Architecture and Theatre (Museum of New Mexico Press, 2018), as well as articles for Berlin’s Die Vierte Wand, Theatre Historical Society of America’s Marquee, and various Masonic publications, including Scottish Rite Journal and Heredom.
