Ruby U: Black Bears at Lake Chelan

The Ruby Theatre is proud to announce a new series of periodic public presentations, panels, and discussions of community interest in the Chelan Valley. The speaker series, “Ruby U”, is designed to inform, educate and challenge the understanding of ourselves, our community, and our valley now and into the future. These presentation are free to the public.

The first topic in our series will be a presentation “Black Bears at Lake Chelan” at 7:00 pm on April 11, 2024 at the Ruby Theatre, 135 E. Woodin Ave, Chelan, WA 98816.  Rich Beausoleil, Bear and Cougar Specialist, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife will discuss black bear ecology based on a ten-year research project in the North Cascades that finished in 2023; provide an update on orphaned bear cubs from the Twenty-Five Mile fire; give an update on the chronic and increasing human-black bear conflict at Lake Chelan; discuss how WDFW has used Karelian Bear Dogs at Lake Chelan; and give tips on what Lake Chelan residents can do to co-exist with bears and become a BearWise community.
